TEMPLE OF TANIT

It is an old story, of millenia ago. The story about a man and a woman. She was called Tanit, and he was Baal-Hammon. They were not just any couple, but a Goddess and a God. And even though she was known by different names, her essence remained the same. The Goddess of fertility, love, pleasure was associated with luck and the lunar element. Around the sixth century. BC, Carthage inaugurates its own policy of conquest towards the lands that bathed in the Mediterranean Sea. And there, where the men of Carthage landed, the Goddess and her husband also arrived. The Goddess brought by the war found fertile ground on the island where she could rest and grow, as if it were a plant or a bud in bloom. A strong matriarchal character present on the island, made it an important divinity, which in the form of an icon is still present today in the fascinating necropolis.
