CHRIST AT THE COLUMN
The work, with a strong pathos, of a sophisticated elegance in the slouching, almost dancing posture of Christ, is a sculptural work by Cristoforo Solari, an Italian Renaissance artist and sculptor.
HISTORY
The Renaissance was one of the periods in which Italian sculpture reached the pinnacle of perfection and refinement. Sculpture, in these centuries, ceased to be a pure imitation of Hellenistic canons of beauty, to approach a form of emotion. Each work therefore had to express its inner movements to the observer, in short, the soul. Just the one inserted inside the sculpture; the subject does not allow himself to be overwhelmed by his own suffering, but looks at the visitor without losing his humanity, even if condemned. After centuries hidden in the sacristy of Milan Cathedral, sculpture is now at the center of the exhibition «The body and soul from Donatello to Michelangelo» held at the Castello Sforzesco in Milan and now in progress in Paris at the Musee du Louvre.
PROCESS
A conservative intervention of timely revision and delicate cleaning of the artifact was carried out, monitoring all operations with the help of UV light to verify the correct removal of the protective films over admitted. In full compliance with the work, a cleaning operation was carried out with enzymes capable of removing deposits in a perfectly selective manner.

Preliminary investigations.
Enzymatic cleaning process (lipase).
Surface cleaning with steam generator to remove processing residues.
Treatment to stop oxidation and to protect the elements.
Grouting with lime-based mortar and selected aggregates to compensate for punctual fractures.
Application of wax neutral microcrystalline with the exclusive purpose of protecting the work.
